Harmonizing Resource Tracking for Better Decision-Making
After 5 years of working with African experts and institutions to advance universal health coverage across the continent, the African Collaborative for Health Financing Solutions ACS is happy to share with you key lessons and knowledge we have accumulated to serve as a foundation for countries wishing to advance UHC.
Reaching UHC means countries understand the magnitude of and use resources efficiently and holistically. A key priority for ACS was to advance country capacity and leadership to drive health financing decisions. Since tracking resources for health is critical for effective policymaking, resource allocation, and program planning, many countries want to institutionalize it to generate routine expenditure data to inform health financing decision-making. But they often face a trade-off between conducting regular assessments and managing costs. ACS has curated a package of resources and lessons from Namibia’s and Botswana’s successful approach to institutionalizing harmonized resource tracking, which includes practical tools and guidance for other countries looking to improve their resource tracking for better health financing decision making.
